MUSEOS DE LA SEDA / SILK MUSEUMS
theme of silk production and textile industry during the Soviet period in Geor- gia. The result of the residency and workshop were presented at the exhibition called “Breathe” at the State Silk Museum. - In July 2018, our residency program hosted artist Dilyara Kaipova from Uzbeki- stan. As part of the museum’s summer school program, she conducted public lectures about textile traditions of Uzbekistan, as well as implemented practical workshops. She also worked on her individual artistic project using the loom at the museum. Additionally, she supported the research of textile collections at the museum. One of the most recent projects organized by the museum was an international festi- val called Memory Threads: Museum and Neighborhood, which was also part of Art Prospect Project. The festival emerged from the special history the State Silk Museum has with its surrounding, among many topics, it concerned art and public space, museum’s historical and current relation with the surrounding and was a step forward for connecting direct neighbors, individuals as well as establishments and organizations, with the museum. The festival included artworks by local and international artists in the museum building, its garden and surrounding spaces, artistic tours of the neighborhood, educational program “Student as a Guide” where schoolchildren made guided tours about the museum and its surrounding, and souvenir making workshops. Considering the importance of its history and collections, the State Silk Museum works actively to maintain and spread the diverse knowledge it has. Additionally, currently the museum actively works on new ways to represent and enrich its knowledge, manifested in its various and multifaceted programs, making it an interesting, active, and inspiring place locally and internationally. 134
